Happiness of staff was crucial to sale, says Miles Morgan

Ensuring the future happiness of staff was key to the decision to sell Miles Morgan Travel to Hays Travel, according to founder Miles Morgan.

Morgan, who has sold the 19-branch agency for an “undisclosed sum” to Hays Travel, paid tribute to his staff as a “sensational bunch” who have “done wonders over the last 18 years.”

He said he had been humbled by the “brilliant” way they had taken the news of the sale “in typical Miles Morgan Travel style”.

He added: “Their focus, to be fair to all of them, was: ‘Was I happy?’, and it was great for me. To be honest that made me feel incredibly humbled that that was the way they viewed it. There are a cracking bunch. I’m incredibly proud of them.”

Speaking about his decision to sell to Hays Travel, he said it had been critical that he found the right owners for the business to make sure staff were well looked after.

“That was probably the most important thing for me, making sure it’s the right home, ” he said, adding: “It was 30 plus years ago that I met John and Irene [Hays] and so it’s not a new relationship. And when you know somebody over that length of time, you really do not only see them in operation, but also you really, properly understand the values and what they think is important in life.

“And I know the focus at Hays is very much about people looking after people and respect for people. That was a crucial part of my decision making in terms of the sale being to Hays.”
