Althams Travel regional manager retires after 47 years of service

Beryl Towne, regional manager of Althams Travel, has retired after 47 years of service and “unwavering” commitment with the agency.

She said goodbye to her colleagues in April as she began retirement with her partner, Pete.

Her career began in 1977 as an apprentice at Althams Travel’s Accrington office, then she moved to the Blackburn branch as a travel clerk.

By 1983, she had climbed to the position of branch manager, initially serving at the Clitheroe branch for a year before taking the helm at the Blackburn branch, a post she held for 14 years.

Her career continued upwards and in 1998 she was appointed regional manager.

She had “numerous” other responsibilities, notably serving as an ambassador for supplier marketing organisation Tipto.

Sandra McAllister, manager director, said Beryl’s role at Tipto was one “she cherished and excelled in, fostering numerous professional connections”.

“Beryl also represented Althams in the Advantage Travel Partnership, ensuring the directors were kept abreast of crucial industry developments and news,” added McAllister.

“Beryl’s departure will undoubtedly leave a void, given the numerous friendships and professional relationships she has cultivated over the years. She will be greatly missed.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Beryl for her unwavering commitment and exemplary service to Althams and wish her a joyous and fulfilling retirement.

“However, this is not the end. Beryl will be joining us at our 150th anniversary summer ball in June, the partner VIP event in August, and the Christmas party in December.

“Therefore, we say, ‘See you soon, Beryl’!”
