Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, Sunset Boulevard, will open at Curve in Leicester on September 16, ahead of a UK and Ireland tour.
The Curve production stars Ria Jones as Norma Desmond and is directed by Nikolai Foster, who directed the successful recent productions of Annie, starring Craig Revel Horwood, and Calamity Jane, starring Jodie Prenger.
Based on Billy Wilder’s film, Sunset Boulevard is described as “a compelling story of romance and obsession”.
As well as the title number Sunset Boulevard, it includes the songs With One Look, As If We Never Said Goodbye, The Greatest Star Of All and The Perfect Year.
It tells the story of faded, silent-screen goddess, Norma Desmond, and impoverished screen writer, Joe Gillis, on the run from debt collectors.
Last year, Jones played the role of Norma Desmond at the London Coliseum when Glenn Close was indisposed.
She has also starred in 42nd Street in Paris and her West End credits include Les Misérables, Cats and Chess.
After Leicester, the tour moves on to Edinburgh, Newcastle, Manchester, Aberdeen, Birmingham and Dublin, before reaching Milton Keynes by December.
In 2018, it will visit Bristol, Southampton, Woking, Southend and Bradford.
Further venues are to be announced.
