VisitBritain woos LGBTQ travellers

VisitBritain is marking the 50th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales with the launch of its latest Love is GREAT campaign.

The marketing targets LGBTQ audiences in the US and Australia and is part of a three-year campaign to raise awareness of the UK as a welcoming and friendly destination.

Paul Gauger, VisitBritain interim executive vice president, said: “From its vibrant cities brimming with culture and heritage to its stunning countryside and romantic retreats, Britain is packed full of incredible experiences that you can’t get anywhere else.

“This campaign is all about showcasing the sheer diversity of these amazing moments and that a warm welcome awaits you wherever you choose to go.”

To mark this significant anniversary, cultural establishments such as the British Museum and the Tate are featuring special exhibits and events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Sexual Offences Act.

Cities such as Birmingham and Brighton have also revealed the first details of this year’s Pride celebrations.

The Love Is GREAT campaign is part of VisitBritain’s larger ’Home of Amazing Moments’ campaign, which was launched in 2016.

• Meanwhile, VisitBritain and British Airways have launched a new campaign to inspire more visitors from South Africa to book a trip to Britain.

BA is offering discounted fares of up to 20% and VisitBritain is running a competition to win a trip for two from South Africa to the UK.

Sumathi Ramanathan, VisitBritain director, said: “By showcasing the incredible experiences on offer and getting great tactical fares in market we want to inspire even more visitors from South Africa to come and discover their own amazing moments. It is a great time to come to Britain.”
