VisitBritain seeks top transatlantic Premier League fan

VisitBritain has launched a competition to find America’s biggest Premier League fan and send them on a dream trip to the UK to attend a Premier League football match.

Football enthusiasts across the US can enter by recording a short video to explain what makes them the biggest Premier League fan in America.

The US ranks fourth globally for the number of overseas visitors to Britain who watch a live Premier League match during their trip.

Clare Mullin, VisitBritain marketing director, said: “The Premier League has a global fan base of billions so this is a fantastic opportunity to promote the energy and excitement of attending a match and exploring our vibrant football cities.

“The US has some of the most passionate football fans in the world and we look forward to bringing the biggest Premier League fan to Britain to experience one of the many amazing football moments that can only be had here.”

The competition is being promoted online with the hashtags #SuperFootballFan and #OMGB (Oh My GREAT Britain) and is part of VisitBritain’s global #OMGB ‘Home of Amazing Moments’ campaign.

More than 800,000 international visitors attended a Premier League football match during their trip to Britain in 2014, and they spent £684 million.

• Opera singer Katherine Jenkins and actor Charlie Hunnam are among the stars helping to promote Britain in VisitBritain’s new international Imagination magazine.

Available in 10 languages, the magazine showcases Britain as a place to holiday, study and do business.

The second issue profiles Jenkins and her favourite places in the UK and includes an interview with Hunnam, star of the upcoming film King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, which was filmed in Britain.

As England celebrates its ‘Year of Literary Heroes’, the magazine also features literary-inspired destinations based on Jane Austen and Harry Potter.
