City Cruises buys York River Boat Cruises in £2.5m deal

Agents can now book sightseeing river cruise operator York River Boat Cruises and earn 15% commission following its £2.5 million acquisition by City Cruises.

York River Boat Cruises, which will be rebranded as City Cruises York, carries about 100,000 passengers a year and has five ships.

The vessels operate walk-on, group and charter bookings and offer lunch, tea and evening dining options on the river Ouse. There will also be Sail with Santa Cruise options and Christmas Night Cruises during the festive season.

There are 20 members of staff, led by general manager Jo Dykes, who will oversee the company’s transition to become City Cruises York.

Kyle Haughton, managing director of City Cruises, said: “Our objective is to grow the business beyond London and the new acquisition is a step towards achieving this.

“There are significant opportunities to work with the trade in York and the success we’ve had packaging attractions with cruises is something we want to develop there too.

“We’re increasingly seeing the inbound market expanding into regions outside the capital and we believe that our brand and business model will enhances the traditional boat operator business in York.”

City Cruises carries four million passengers a year and operates 20 vessels on the Thames in London and two in Poole, Dorset.
