Newcastle Theatre Royal unveils 2018 shows

Major musicals, family shows, dance and drama have been announced for the forthcoming seasons at Newcastle Theatre Royal.

Four major musicals are lined up for the venue: Kay Mellor’s Fat Friends – The Musical, Cilla – The Musical, Tim Firth’s Take That musical The Band and the Broadway and West End hit Jersey Boys.

Fat Friends – The Musical (January 23-27) will star West End favourite Jodie Prenger (pictured) and X Factor winner Sam Bailey.

Cilla – The Musical (February 27-March 3) is a musical adaptation of the critically acclaimed hit ITV television series and includes Cilla’s greatest hits Anyone Who Had a Heart, Alfie and Something Tells Me.

Now the fastest selling musical theatre tour of all time, The Band (April 3-14) is about how the songs of a boy band became the soundtrack to our lives.

West End and Broadway hit Jersey Boys (July 31-August 11) hits the Newcastle stage in summer 2018, and tells the true story of The Four Seasons.

Ballet and dance fans will enjoy shows from Rambert and Scottish Ballet, plus Brendan Cole’s new production All Night Long.

Following the sold-out success of The Red Shoes earlier this year, Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures company returns to the Theatre Royal in April 2018 with Cinderella.

Kids can head to the theatre to see Teletubbies Live (February 10-11); a new adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic The Jungle Book (March 27-31); and the West End production of David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny (May 30 –June 2).

Plays heading for Newcastle next year include Pressure, The Kite Runner and Agatha Christie’s Love from a Stranger.
