Wales Millennium Centre’s production of Tiger Bay The Musical is at the Cardiff venue (pictured) from November 13-25.
Created in association with Cape Town Opera, the new musical is set in Cardiff’s Tiger Bay in the early 1900s, when “revolution was brewing in the dark and restless world beneath the genteel surface”.
Casualty actress Suzanne Packer will play Landlady, Marisha, joining West End and Broadway actor John Owen Jones (Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera) as John Crichton-Stuart, Third Marquess of Bute; and Hear’Say’s Noel Sullivan (BBC’s Ordinary Lives, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels UK tour, We Will Rock You UK tour) as Harbour Master, Séamus O’Rourke. Vicki Bebb (pictured at Wales Millennium Centre) plays valley girl.
Other major shows being hosted at the centre include Beautiful – The Carole King Musical (October 30-November 4); Miss Saigon (November 28-January 6); Take That’s musical The Band (January 9-20); and Sunset Boulevard (February 26-March 3).
Two ballet productions will visit next spring: Sleeping Beauty by the Birmingham Royal Ballet (March 14-17) and Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella (April 3-7).
Shrek the Musical will be at the theatre from April 10-22, 2018, followed by Kay Mellor’s Fat Friends The Musical (April 24-28); Titanic The Musical (April 30-May 5); War Horse (July 4-28); Wicked (October 31-November 24) and Matilda (December 4-January 12, 2019).
Next year, the venue will also host an international arts event, the Festival of Voice 2018 (June 7-17).
