The UK tour of Hairspray will continue to tour the UK into August 2018, due to demand for tickets.
The musical had been due to finish in Cheltenham, but extra dates have now been added in June, July and August at venues in Stoke, Oxford, Newcastle, Eastbourne, York, Swansea, Bournemouth and Dublin.
The show opened in August 2017 at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, and is currently at Aylesbury’s Waterside Theatre.
After Aylesbury, it moves to Carlisle, Bradford, Guildford, Plymouth, Southampton, Sheffield, Aberdeen, Nottingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Inverness, Manchester, Milton Keynes, Liverpool, Hull, Llandudno, Canterbury, Southend and Wycombe.
Set in Baltimore in 1962, the musical tells the tale of Tracy Turnblad, “a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart”, who is on a mission to follow her dreams and dance her way onto national TV.
It stars ITV comedy legend Norman Pace as Wilbur Turnblad, Brenda Edwards as Motormouth Maybelle and Layton Williams as Seaweed.
Matt Rixon returns to the role of Edna Turnblad and newcomer Rebecca Mendoza makes her professional debut as Tracy Turnblad.
Hairspray is based on the 1988 film of the same name by cult filmmaker John Waters, which starred Divine and Ricki Lake.
It opened on Broadway in 2002 and then in London at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 2007.
A film of the musical was released in 2007 which starred John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and James Marsden.
