Phil Daniels plays lead in Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde

Actor Phil Daniels will play the title roles in a UK touring production of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Adapted by David Edgar and directed by Kate Saxon, the play opens at Rose Theatre Kingston (February 9-17).

It will then tour to His Majesty’s Theatre Aberdeen; Malvern Festival Theatre; Dartford Orchard; Nottingham Theatre Royal; Blackpool Grand Theatre; Wycombe Swan; King’s Theatre Edinburgh; Bradford Alhambra; Wolverhampton Grand Theatre; and Cambridge Arts Theatre. It will finish its tour at the Darlington Hippodrome (May 14-19).

Stevenson’s classic gothic thriller tells the story of the respectable Dr Henry Jekyll, who splits his personality into two, releasing the “fiendish and murderous” Edward Hyde.

Playing both title roles is Daniels, whose other theatre credits include King Lear, Anthony and Cleopatra, Knight of The Burning Pestle and Les Miserables.

On television, he is well known for his role as Kevin Wicks in EastEnders. Other television work includes Doctor Who and New Tricks, while his film credits include The Hatton Garden Job, Chicken Run, Scum and Quadrophenia.
