To coincide with the UK release of feature film Darkest Hour, the Houses of Parliament is running a ‘Churchill Season’ of special events.
Planned activities include a Churchill Tour Experience on January 26, which will give visitors the chance to meet parliamentary archivists.
There will also be Churchill Guided Tours, which will run every Saturday between January 13 and February 17.
Darkest Hour is a British biographical war drama film directed by Joe Wright. Starring Gary Oldman as Sir Winston Churchill the film follows his early days as prime minister and includes shots from inside the Palace of Westminster itself.
The Churchill Season events will highlight Churchill’s life and career in the House of Commons, and give visitors an insight into this key period in our nation’s history.
Welcoming the new events, Churchill’s grandson Nicholas Soames said: “I’m delighted that parliament is to celebrate the life of Winston Churchill and his 64 years as a member of parliament.
“These events coincide with the release of the remarkable new film on Sir Winston, Darkest Hour. It is my hope that visitors will enjoy the chance to learn more of Sir Winston’s extraordinary parliamentary career and his legacy, and further, will go away with a clearer understanding of this truly momentous period in the history of our country.”
