The Chichester Festival Theatre’s production of Shakespeare’s King Lear will run at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London for 100 performances (July 11-November 3).
Ian McKellen will play King Lear, returning to the Duke of York’s Theatre where he made his West End debut in the 1964 production of A Scent of Flowers.
McKellen said: “It’s a small theatre but we shall make it even more intimate by removing half the stalls seats.”
He has enjoyed an illustrious career on stage and screen, and has played many of Shakespeare’s most famous roles including Hamlet, Macbeth, Iago, Richard II and III.
Full casting for the West End production of King Lear will be announced in due course.
