Chislehurst travel agency Go Travel has acquired established family-owned CoachHolidays.com to secure the future of the business.
CoachHolidays.com can trace its history in Croydon back to 1948, and it has sold more than £100 million worth of holidays over that time.
The company employs 10 people at its retail outlet, and was put up for sale following the death of two directors.
Go Travel was founded in Chislehurst in 1999 by Chris and Penny Roberts and their son Mike. It has branches in Petts Wood, Locksbottom, Sevenoaks and Blackheath, and employs 28 staff.
The company also has a tour operation called cultural-breaks.com, specialising in luxury escorted holidays.
Director Mike Roberts was introduced to Elle and Barbara Flin, members of the original founding family of CoachHolidays.com, by Barclays relationship director James Carden.
Roberts said: “I could see that this was a successful company and was complementary to our own, so it made sense to combine the two businesses.
“I wanted to maintain a strong presence in Croydon so have moved the business across the road to offices in Woolwich House where we run the businesses effectively and can still meet and support customers.
“I was delighted that all of the members of the team stayed with the businesses so we have been able to benefit from their excellent contacts and experience.
“We have ambitious plans for the business and I am really confident about the future.”
Carden said: “It was a pleasure to be able to introduce two of my customers to one another and with such a satisfactory outcome for both parties.
“It is clear that the businesses will both benefit from the tie-up and I look forward to supporting the combined group long into the future.”
Sarah Jones, MP for Croydon South, visited the business to congratulate them on the next stage of development.
