Choreographer Matthew Bourne and his dance company New Adventures will start a UK tour with their production of Swan Lake in September.
Their version of Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet is best known for replacing the female corps-de-ballet with a “menacing” male ensemble, turning tradition upside down.
The show will tour for 32 weeks to 22 UK venues and begins at the Theatre Royal Plymouth on September 22, ahead of an eight-week Christmas season at Sadler’s Wells (December 4-January 27).
Swan Lake will continue until the end of May 2019, before embarking on several international tour dates.
After Plymouth, the tour will visit Leicester, High Wycombe, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Bradford, Nottingham, Salford and Sadlers Wells.
In January 2019, it will begin touring again, visiting Milton Keynes, Birmingham, Southampton, Glasgow, Bristol, Canterbury, Norwich, Liverpool, Wimbledon, Hull, Woking, Newcastle and Sheffield.
