The Tourism Society has revealed that Blackpool will be the destination for its 2019 Tourism Symposium.
The event will take place in the autumn of 2019, on dates to be confirmed, at Blackpool’s new Winter Gardens Conference Centre opening in summer next year.
The announcement was made today in Greenwich, at the end of the 2018 Symposium.
The new Winter Gardens Conference Centre will have two floors of adaptable space to facilitate the main plenary session, exhibition and break-out areas.
A wide range of hotels will be available for delegates as well as transport connections.
The Tourism Society’s newly elected chairman, Kevin Kaley (pictured), said: “I am delighted that Blackpool has kindly offered to host the 2019 Tourism Symposium. There is no doubt that the resort will continue to grow in popularity following its extensive regeneration programme over the past five years.
“Blackpool is set to welcome several new branded hotels during the next two years and represents an outstanding example of how a destination’s tourism economy can be transformed.”
Councillor Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of Blackpool Council, added: “The Tourism Society’s Symposium will provide an excellent opportunity for us to not only showcase the superb facilities on offer at the new Winter Gardens Conference Centre but also the new accommodation offer and direct transport links.”
Plans are already under way to attract top speakers from international and domestic tourism markets for the 2019 Symposium and further details will be disclosed over the next few months.
There were 120 delegates at the 2018 Tourism Symposium in Greenwich (June 4-5), which included discovery tours of Greenwich and Woolwich, and a day-long conference discussing trends in culture, transport, hospitality, tourism, destinations, technology, marketing and sustainability.
