Kevin Kennedy – aka Coronation Street’s Curly Watts – will star in the UK and Ireland tour of the musical comedy Rock of Ages.
It opens at The Churchill Theatre, Bromley, on September 20. The tour will move on to Manchester, Wycombe, Darlington, Dublin, Cardiff, Birmingham, Dartford and Sheffield.
In 2019, it will reach Glasgow, then Aberdeen, Stoke-on-Trent, Crawley, Wimbledon, Ipswich, Coventry, Oxford, Nottingham, Bristol, York, Edinburgh, Northampton, Swansea, Woking, Canterbury, Blackpool, Swindon, Southampton and finally Sunderland in July.
Kennedy will play ‘Dennis’, along with Zoe Birkett, Jodie Steele, Luke Walsh, Lucas Rush, Andrew Carthy and Rhiannon Chesterman.
His West End theatre credits include Chicago and We Will Rock You, and he was the first actor to play both Caractacus Potts and The Child Catcher roles in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
He has also appeared in the national tours of the musicals The Rocky Horror Show, The Commitments and Fat Friends.
Birkett is probably best known as the highest placing female contestant in ITV’s Pop Idol in 2002; while Steele has appeared in Wicked, Heathers the Musical and the national tours of Jesus Christ Superstar and Fame.
Set in Los Angeles, Rock of Ages is a love story with more than 25 classic rock anthems including We Built This City, The Final Countdown, Here I Go Again, Can’t Fight this Feeling and I Want To Know What Love Is.
