Shakespeare in Love to tour from autumn

Shakespeare in Love – based on the Oscar-winning film – will open at the Theatre Royal Bath ahead of a UK tour later this year.

Based on the screenplay by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard, the play was adapted for the stage by Lee Hall with music by Paddy Cunneen.

It opens in Bath on October 4, and will tour to Nottingham, Malvern, Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh and Chichester. Further venues are to be announced.

The 1998 film of Shakespeare in Love starred Judi Dench, Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow and won seven Academy Awards, including best screenplay.

The play opened for a West End run in 2014 to critical and public acclaim.

Described as a “romantic comedy of errors”, it tells the story of a young Will Shakespeare suffering from writers’ block, until he finds his muse: Viola.
