A ‘mixed reality’ treasure hunt will be launched in Cornwall and Devon next week, encouraging families to explore and find TV characters with mobile devices.
Based on the animated pre-school TV show Pip Ahoy!, the interactive trail is a partnership between location-based experiences platform Landmrk and production studio CHF Entertainment.
Hotspots will be placed in towns across Cornwall and Devon, including Exeter, Penzance, Falmouth, Padstow, St Ives and Newquay.
Families can access the map by clicking on the link pipahoytrail.com which will be made available on the Pip Ahoy! social media channels.
The platform will also introduce new friends of Pip the puppy, ahead of the release of the third series in August.
Pip can usually be found leading a team of intrepid young explorers around the fictional seaside town of Salty Cove.
Travelling to hotspots also generates a discount code for attractions, food and drink.
Crealy Adventure Park & Resort in Devon is offering 25% discounted entry to those who can unlock the discount vouchers.
Josh Haywood, general manager of Crealy Adventure Park & Resort, commented: “We are delighted to pair up with CHF Enterprises Ltd and welcome Pip Ahoy to the park this summer. It’s a perfect fit that we are very excited about offering to our guests. As well as being one of the first Theme Parks to offer the interactive trail, Pip will be on stage daily to meet his fans.”
Seth Jackson, Landmrk chief executive, said: “This project represents the next step in the evolution of destination holidays.
“It can be difficult for parents to prise their children away from screens in order to see the sights and take part in activities.
“Mixed reality and location-based experiences such as this provide an opportunity for families, as well as the travel and tourism industry more generally, to instead embrace mobile devices for the enhancement of family holidays.”
Adrian Wilkins, CHF Media Group chief executive, added: “Cornwall, with its amazing coastal locations, is the perfect spot to represent Pip Ahoy!’s Salty Cove and for families to join Pip on their own adventures.”
