Comedian Hugh Dennis and opera singer Lesley Garrett will head the cast of The Messiah, a new comedy that will tour the UK.
They will be joined by John Marquez, who is best known for his role as PC Joe Penhale in the ITV comedy series Doc Martin.
The Messiah opens at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre on October 15, before touring to New Theatre, Cardiff; Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield; Cheltenham Everyman Theatre; and Richmond Theatre.
It tells the tale of a travelling theatre troupe of two actors and an opera singer who arrive by camel at venues across the UK to “masterfully enact the greatest story ever told”.
Dennis is an award-winning actor and writer who stars in Mock The Week and Outnumbered, while soprano Garrett regularly appears in opera, musical theatre, concert and television.
The Messiah is written and director by Patrick Barlow whose other stage works include his new version of A Christmas Carol starring Jim Broadbent as Scrooge.
