Pop star Louise Redknapp and comedian Brian Conley will star in country music legend Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 The Musical, writes Angie Cronin.
The musical will be at the Savoy Theatre in London’s West End (January 28-August 31) and tickets go on sale at noon on September 18.
The show is inspired by the legendary film of the same name, which was based on a book by Patrick Resnick with music and lyrics by Parton.
The musical tells the story of Violet Newstead, Doralee Rhodes and Judy Bernly, three workmates frustrated by the exploits of their sexist and egotistical boss.
The three women concoct a plan to kidnap him but their plot starts to unravel when the CEO of the company pays an unexpected visit.
Redknapp will be Violet, who was played by Lily Tomlin in the movie, while Conley, who also has many West End credits, will be the much-despised boss Franklin Hart, portrayed by Dabney Wharton Coleman in the movie.
Amber Davies, winner of Love Island 2017, will be making her West End debut as Judy, the character which Jane Fonda played in the cult 1980 movie, while Natalie McQueen, currently starring in the West End as Lauren in Kinky Boots, will be Doralee, which was Parton’s role in the film.
Directed by Jeff Calhoun, the choreography is by Lisa Stevens.
