Jodie Prenger has been cast in the lead role in the UK tour of Mike Leigh’s 1970s comedy classic, Abigail’s Party, writes Angie Cronin.
The tour begins in Brighton on January 10, 2019, and ends on April 20, 2019, when its last performance will be in Edinburgh.
Set in 1970s suburbia, the play tells the story of Beverly and her husband Laurence, who are throwing a party for their newly-wed neighbours, Tony and Angela.
Joining them is highly-strung Susan, who has been banished from the party of her teenage daughter Abigail.
As tensions rise and tempers flare, the sheen of respectability is torn away by the warring couples.
Prenger burst on to the scene in the role of Nancy in Cameron Macintosh’s Oliver! but has more recently starred in a new UK tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s one-woman show Tell Me On A Sunday.
The UK tour of Abigail’s Party will visit Brighton, Birmingham, York, Glasgow, Southampton, Stoke-on-Trent Woking, Northampton, Blackpool, Aylesbury, Liverpool, Dartford, Manchester and Edinburgh.
