Gillian Anderson and Lily James will star in All About Eve at the Noël Coward Theatre in London’s West End next year, writes Angie Cronin.
The 1950 movie starred Bette Davies and Marilyn Monroe and won six Academy Awards. It has been adapted for the stage and will be directed by Olivier and Tony Award-winner Ivo van Hove.
The play will run for 14 weeks from February 2, 2019.
All About Eve tells the story of theatre legend Margo Channing, who has just turned 40 and is concerned about what the future holds for her career. She becomes close friends with her biggest fan, young, beautiful Eve, which leads to Margo’s life taking an unexpected turn.
Anderson, best known for her role as special agent Scully in cult TV series The X-Files, will play Channing, while James, who recently starred as a the young Donna in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, takes on the role of Eve.
Bafta award-winner Monica Dolan will join the cast in the role of Karen, Channing’s close friend, alongside Sheila Reid as Birdie, Channing’s maid, and Rhashan Stone as Lloyd, the playwright.
