Off-Broadway musical Little Miss Sunshine will make its European premiere in a new production at the Arcola Theatre, Hackney, London.
The show kicks off a seven-week season on March 21 before embarking on a UK tour starting at New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich, on May 20, and then heading to Salford, York, Brighton, Bradford, Woking, Glasgow, Birmingham, Canterbury, Blackpool, Malvern, Leicester, Aberdeen and Eastbourne.
Based on the Academy Award-winning film by Michael Arndt, Little Miss Sunshine is an off-beat musical comedy created by the Tony Award-winning team of James Lapine – who collaborated with Stephen Sondheim on Into the Woods and Sunday in the Park with George – and William Finn (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Falsettos).
This new production will be directed by the Arcola’s artistic director, Mehmet Ergen.
Little Miss Sunshine tells the story of the Hoover family, who have more than a few troubles, but embark on an 800-mile trip from New Mexico to California to help their daughter Olive to take part in the Little Miss Sunshine beauty contest.
