Today (Friday) is expected to be the busiest day in easyJet’s flying history.
The budget carrier is running 1,544 flights, carrying more than 235,600 passengers across its entire network.
Around 135,500 of these passengers are expected to be flying from the UK.
The peak day comes as Europe’s businesses get back to work, with 20% of passengers flying for corporate purposes.
The end of the school holidays and unpredictable British weather has also prompted many to seek some last-minute sunshine.
Popular destinations include Malaga, Barcelona, Palma, Faro, Nice, Milan, Alicante and Olbia.
UK director, Sophie Dekkers, said:
“We’re delighted that so many passengers have chosen to get back to business or start their late summer breaks with us.
“Our mobile boarding passes are also proving particularly popular with more than 10% of passengers now using them in place of paper boarding passes.”
