Flights are being cancelled to and from Italy today due to a walkout by airport ground handlers.

The national strike by handlers at Italian airports is also to affect flights this afternoon, with British Airways and easyJet among airlines cancelling services.

British Airways said: “We are aiming to operate the large majority of services as normal, but regrettably there will be a small number of cancellations and some services will be retimed to avoid the strike periods.

“We will be using larger aircraft wherever possible to help customers whose flights have been cancelled.”

Flights to and from France were also facing disruption today due to strike action by air traffic controllers.

Eurocontrol reported a high level of flight delays this morning at Paris Orly and Marseille due to the industrial action.

EasyJet said it planned to operate is normal schedule but warned passengers to expects delays to flights throughout the day.

“Like all airlines, our flights to and from French airports, as well as those flying in French airspace, might be affected,” the budget carrier said.
