Mature travellers continue to offer a high-revenue target market, according to research due to be released at The Travel Convention on Wednesday.

Travel review and advice site Silver Travel Advisor conducted research among almost 500 members and found that 80%would be willing to spend more than £1,000 on a holiday, with 50% willing to spend more than £3,000 and 20% more than £5,000.

At least four holidays a year are taken by 60% of respondents, with round-the-world cruises, trips to Venice and the Scottish Highlands, and Northern Lights experiences popular.

Almost 50% voted city breaks as their favourite type of holiday, with cruise and beach holidays the next most popular.

Debbie Marshall, managing director of Silver Travel Advisor, said: “Mature travellers are going further and more often; over 80% of the nation’s wealth is at the disposal of the over-50s and it’s clear from the survey that they want to spend, spend, spend on travel and holidays.

“About 60% of older travellers research and select their holidays online, with most stating they would be influenced by online reviews, although a third still prefer to book their holiday over the phone or with a travel agent.”
