US officials have blocked more than 20 Muslim families from flying, according to new allegations from a London-based imam.

The allegation comes after a London family planning a trip to California were told at the airport that they would not be allowed to travel.

Imam Ajmal Masroor told The Independent that he had received similar treatment, and claimed border officials were using racial profiling to stop genuine travellers from entering the US.

Masroor said he had his US business visa revoked on December 17 after checking in to board a flight to the US from Heathrow, and claimed many who had suffered similar rejections were too afraid to speak up.

He told The Independent: “I asked [the official] why repeatedly and he said, ‘You must have done something wrong,’ without any explanation. This is absolutely discrimination. It is not acceptable and playing into the hands of the terrorists.”

Mr Masroor said: “I’m aware of at least 20 other cases where families are afraid to even speak out.”
