Gentoo penguins arrive at National Sea Life Centre Birmingham

The National Sea Life Centre Birmingham has welcomed a group of Gentoo penguins which have arrived from Calgary.

The new birds have joined the current residents in the Penguin Ice Adventure exhibit, which provides an insight into the world of the penguin.

Visitors to the Merlin-owned attraction can also see sharks, turtles, jellyfish, piranha, octopus, rays and otters, and get up close to crabs and starfish at the interactive rock pool.

To celebrate the venue’s 20th anniversary this year, a series of special events is being held, including Turtle Fest (September 12-25), which aims to highlight the plight of this vulnerable species.

Spooky Seas (October 22-31) will offer Halloween themed half-term activities for kids, and Shark Week (November 5-13) will feature a range of “exciting, interactive and memorable experiences to raise awareness about the wide range of shark species and the challenges that they are facing”.

The festive season will see the Merry Fishmas event (December 10-23) with underwater Christmas trees and Santa in his Antarctic Grotto.

Groups of 10 or more can save up to 30%, and also upgrade to a VIP tour with a Sea Life expert to guide the group around the attraction.
